Warriors PG for 2 hours Jose Calderon is expected to sign with the Atlanta Hawks.
Calderon agreed in a Buyout with the Lakers and, after clearing Waivers, the PG signed with the Golden State Warriors. Unfortunately, Kevin Durant got injured in Washington, his hometown, while playing against the Wizards.
The Warriors were forced to sign Matt Barnes to give some strength to the SF position, and, to have a open roster spot, waive Jose Calderon.
Mike Budenholzer and the Hawks are interested in adding a Point-Guard to the roster, after waiving Lamar Patterson and having one open roster spot.
Let’s not forget that The league notified teams this week that Calderon was waived by Golden State in time to be eligible for the Playoffs.
The Spanish Guard is the perfect fit in Atlanta, as the Hawks’ two biggest issues this season has been a lack of depth at the point guard position and shooting the three-pointer at a low percentage.
Calderon is the solution the Hawks have found to both issues, as he can split minutes, sharing his experience, with the Backup PG Malcolm Delaney (Who is still a Rookie, and is being the Backup of a 23-year-old Starter Dennis Schroder) and, in Calderon’s time in the league, he has historically great shooting averages.
Marc Stein (ESPN) confirmed our thoughts, saying that “The Atlanta Hawks hope to add Jose Calderon to their roster as early as Saturday, according to league sources.”
